Guidelines for Removal of Traffic Control Devices in Rural Areas -- The Iowa Department of Transportation has released a report that examines the safety performance of stop-controlled versus uncontrolled intersections at ultra-low-volume unpaved roads. The report also explores criteria to assess the use of stop control and analyzes the effects of extensive versus lesser use of STOP signs. In addition, the study reviews the legal implications of removing STOP signs and offers guidance for the removal of unneeded control.
